Technical Forum
The American Sternwheel Association offers this service in our continuing effort to promote Paddlewheel Boats. By clicking 'Take me to the Forum', you will be offered a chance to ask questions in various categories concerning any and all aspects of building or re-working a paddlewheel vessel. These questions will be reviewed by our Captains and others with experience in the related field. They will then respond with an answer or opinion. However, please remember that not all questions, especially about paddlewheel boats, have just one exact answer. There are varied opinions on how many things should be done.
Please Note: You DO NOT have to Register and have a Password to use this forum!
TO POST A QUESTION: Select a category in which you would like to post a question and then click 'New Topic'. A window will open in which you will be asked for your 'User Name' and 'Password. However, you merely need to enter your name in the 'User Name' box then proceed on. You should then post a brief 'Topic title'. For instance, under Hull Design & Construction, your topic might be 'Bow design'. Next, tab down to the window below and ask your question then click 'Post'. After you post a question, please send an e-mail to the yeoman@americansternwheel.org notifying him that you posted a query. He will then contact other builders to solicit a response from them.
Additional Note: There is a feature which allows an e-mail notification when someone responds to your question. However, to use this feature, you must go through the registration procedure.
TO REPLY TO A POSTED QUESTION: Those replying will also be asked for their 'User Name' and 'Password'. Again, all you have to do is enter your name in the 'User Name' box and proceed on.
We ask that you make your questions brief and to the point and you can ask as many questions as you like and in any of the categories. Remember, please notify the yeoman anytime you make a query.
There is also some technical information in the 'Articles' section of this site. Some of these are 're-prints' of articles from the 'Sternwheeler' magazine.
You do not have to be a member of the American Sternwheel Association to utilize this service, however, member dues are what keep the ASA functioning and what supports this web site.
